2011 fut et restera une incroyable année musicale, pleine de surprises, de découvertes en tout genre et tout poil (à rebrousse), de mariages contre-nature entre rock et électro, de pacs zarbis entre folk et indus, emo-pop et chanson... Un joyeux bordel où la liberté était enfin en tête du cortège.
Il a fallu ensuite extraire de ce chaudron magique, athénor en or, la Chanson de l'Album, insolente, indolente et insolite qui avait tant et temps de fois fait chavirer mon coeur, mon corps et mon cul. En images, quelques pépites musicales de l'année 2011 qui ensoleillent mes journées. Il y en a pour tous mes goûts : indie, slowcore, pop, rock, instrumental, folk, folktronic, emopop...
Cass Mcombs (une voix renversante), Vetiver (5eme album de folk indie mené par le génial Andy Cabic) , Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi (les 2 compères se sont rendus aux mythiques Forum Studios à Rome pour y enregistrer cet album avec la volonté de s'inspirer des bande-originales des westerns-spaghetti composées par Ennio Morricone. Ils ont pour cela fait appel aux musiciens ayant accompagné Morricone durant sa carrière ainsi qu'à deux chanteurs faisant figure de guest-stars : le génie du rock Jack White et la charmante jazz woman Norah Jones et le résultat est époustouflant), Idaho (formation américaine culte et pionnière du slowcore - qui s'écoute très fort - qui livre son 9ème opus), Peter Bjorn and John (le trio d'indie rock suédois déchire tout dans cet album), The Strokes (toujours aussi doués), The Vaccines (un premier essai encourageant, je recommande "post break-up sex"), Timber timbre (4eme album de ce combo folk-rock canadien), Mogwai (déjà un classique), Pete and the pirates (sophomore album de ces anglais rigolards et déjantés), Kid Loco (trip-hop électro du grand manitou français), The Rural Alberta Advantage (2ème album de ce groupe canadien), Iron & Wine (Sameul Beam est simplement l'un des plus grands compositeurs vivants, rien que ça !), Arctic Monkeys (les singes de l'arctique sont toujours aussi percutants), Ezra Furman & the Harpoons (troisième essai de ce four-piece rock band américain) et Baxter Dury (disque idéal de fin d'été)...

Buke and Gass
Je vous invite tous à découvrir en exclusivité - et avant qu'ils ne deviennent trop connus - un jeune groupe du Minnesota signé sur le label créé par des membres de The National.

Brooklyn-based BUKE (byook) & GASS (gace) are Arone Dyer on the "buke" (a self-modified six-string former baritone ukulele) and Aron Sanchez on the "gass" (a guitar-bass hybrid of his own creation). Both of them play double duty, also mobilizing a small army of foot percussion. These instruments are then filtered through various pedals, amplifiers and homemade inventions to create a surprisingly complex sound. Dyer's supermelodic vocal lines weave through the beautiful yet unwieldy musical matter, balancing light and dark, calamity and control. Their musical multi-tasking makes for live shows that are visually unexpected and sonically explosive.

La chanson a été écrite par Bobby Hebb à la suite de deux événements funestes consécutifs : l'assassinat du président John Fitzgerald Kennedy le 22 novembre 1963 et, le lendemain, le décès de son frère aîné Harold, poignardé à l'extérieur d'une boîte de nuit à Nashville. Effondré, l'auteur a écrit Sunny comme une recherche d'optimisme.
